Lowe's Wong Junior School has developed a specialist unit to support primary aged pupils struggling to succeed in their mainstream setting. The Flourish EPU @LWJ is funded by Nottinghamshire Local Authority and is one of a number of Enhanced Provision Units across the county, working in tandem with "home schools" to help children with specific needs.
"Flourish" is delivered in partnership with Minster Trust for Education for children attending primary schools in Newark, Southwell and the surrounding areas. If schools would like to enquire about a place at the provision, further information is available on the Accessing Flourish page.
Our Mission and Objectives

Who is Flourish for?
Sometimes pupils have specific needs that mean they find it difficult to succeed in a traditional school setting. Flourish EPU aims to enhance their school experience in an environment and with provision that helps them to succeed, both at Flourish and at their home school. Flourish is not INSTEAD of school, it is ALONGSIDE school, enhancing the education for some pupils.
Flourish is for pupils from year 1 to year 6. Sessions are either morning or afternoon and a bespoke timetable is agreed for each pupil in partnership with the home school and family. Pupils who attend the provision will be on the Special Educational Needs register at their home school and will already have received support to help them. Flourish focuses on helping pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs.
There are a small number places at any given time to make sure there is plenty of staff support for pupils who are attending. Our staff are specialists who know how to work with children struggling to access mainstream education.
Placements at Flourish are time-bound with the objective to enable pupils to fully access their mainstream setting in the future. Places are reviewed on a frequent basis and the awarding of new places is considered carefully by an expert panel.
Applications for a pupil to attend Flourish can only be made by their home school.
