Teaching Internships
At Minster Trust for Education, we are excited to offer Teaching Internships which help you to understand what it’s really like in the classroom. Our Internships are a 3-week programme in June-July 2026 where you’ll be placed in one of our secondary schools with in a specialist department, and will include:
- Opportunities to observe a range of lessons across your chosen subject
- A chance to jointly plan and teach some lessons to our students
- One-to-one guidance and support from a specialist teacher
- Opportunities to meet current and recent trainee teachers
- Information about how to progress to postgraduate teacher training, including your eligibility for funding to support your training.
Internships are funded – you’ll be paid £1,365 (£455 per week) tax-free for taking part.
We’ll place you in one of our schools – most of our placements take place at The Minster School, Southwell (NG25 0LG) or the National Church of England Academy, Hucknall (NG15 7DB), but we also work with other partner schools around Nottinghamshire.
Throughout the week you’ll work with our teachers and other interns to learn more about working in education, with the hope that you’ll then aim to pursue a teaching career.

Once we receive your application, we will review it, and if you are eligible, we will contact you to arrange a short online interview with one of our internships specialists. FAQs
Can I choose which school I will complete my internship in?
We’re usually able to accommodate requests for either The Minster School or National Church of England Academy, which you can indicate on your application form. If you’re hoping to complete an internship at another school, please get in touch and let us know – we work with a number of providers around Nottinghamshire and should be able to help you to secure an internship in a school that works for you.
Does it matter if my degree isn’t in the subject that I want to teach?
Not necessarily – many great teachers don’t study their specialist subject initially! As long as there is a link between your degree and the subject you would like to teach, and you can explain how you would ensure you have adequate subject-specialist knowledge, you could still complete an internship. We’ll discuss this with you at interview.
Can I apply for an internship if I completed my degree a few years ago?
Unfortunately not – internship funding is only available for current undergraduate and postgraduate students. However, we do offer school experience – get in touch with us to find out more and arrange to spend some time in our schools. If you’d like to find out more about training to teach with us, you can access this information here.
